By creating an account or using DataTrail (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
DataTrail connects to your email account (Gmail, Outlook, or an IMAP provider such as Yahoo, AOL, iCloud, or Fastmail) with read-only access to analyze email metadata (sender addresses and dates) and show you which companies likely hold your personal data. DataTrail helps you draft data deletion requests and identify unsubscribe options.
DataTrail does not send any email or take any action without your review and explicit action. When you choose to send a deletion request or unsubscribe from a sender, you review the content first; upon your click, the message is sent through your own connected email account, under your authorization — not from DataTrail's systems or on DataTrail's independent initiative. DataTrail never reads the content of your emails and never modifies or deletes anything already in your inbox.
Information provided by DataTrail — including jurisdiction mapping, privacy law summaries, and generated letter templates — is for general informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. Consult a qualified attorney for advice about your specific situation. DataTrail does not guarantee that any company will honor a deletion request.
You are responsible for reviewing any generated letter before sending it and for the accuracy of the information you provide (such as your state of residence). You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and only with email accounts you own or control.
The Service connects to your mailbox using either Google or Microsoft OAuth (for Gmail and Outlook) or an app-specific password (for IMAP providers such as Yahoo, AOL, iCloud, and Fastmail). Access is read-only. You may revoke DataTrail's access at any time by disconnecting your mailbox within the app, and for Gmail or Outlook also from your Google or Microsoft account security settings.
DataTrail offers a free tier and an optional auto-renewing Premium subscription. Payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Company identification is based on email metadata and may be incomplete or inaccurate.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DataTrail shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of your use of the Service.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will ask you to review and accept the updated Terms before continuing to use the Service.
